Does it sound like people mumble or slur when you talk to them on the phone? Do you need to ask people to repeat themselves? Is it just too hard to use the phone anymore, so you've stopped calling people? If these don't apply to you, do they apply to a family member or friend? MTAP can help!
The Montana Telecommunications Access Program is an agency of the government of Montana that offers assistive equipment and services to Montanans whose disabilities make it hard for them to use the phone.
Commonly abbreviated to MTAP, the program distributes special telephone equipment to Montanans who qualify. MTAP Equipment Specialists will deliver phones right to your home, set the equipment up, and show you how to use it, all at no cost to Montanans who qualify.
MTAP also operates the Montana Relay, a service that makes it possible to place phone calls between standard phones and text telephones. Many of the telephones MTAP distributes make use of text-based communication, when the user is unable to hear. Users of those phones often find that the relay service helps keep them connected to family and friends.
Remember, the telephone is for everyone. If your hearing has faded as a natural part of the aging process, if you suffer from a hearing loss, or if it's just too hard to use a standard phone -- or if you know someone for whom this is true -- MTAP is there for you!
